The Fault In Our Stars & This Star Won't Go Out

The Fault In Our Stars trailer, The Fault In Our Stars trailer, The Fault In Our Stars trailer!

If you haven't read The Fault In Our Stars, put a copy on hold before the movie comes out on June 6th!

In related news, This Star Won't Go Out: The Life and Words of Esther Grace Earl came out yesterday! According to TeenReads.com,  "This Star Won't Go Out chronicles the life of Esther Grace Earl. Diagnosed with thyroid cancer at age twelve, she lived with the disease for four years. During that time, she befriended her favorite young adult author, John Green, at a Harry Potter convention. Green’s cross-generational friendship with Esther motivated him to write his New York Times bestselling novel, The Fault In Our Stars, although the novel tells a far different story than Esther’s." The Fault In Our Stars Release Date

The very much-anticipated The Fault in Our Stars movie has gotten a release date! Mark your calendars: June 6, 2014!

The movie, based on John Green’s novel, tells the story of Hazel Grace and Augustus, two teenagers who meet in a cancer support group and fall in love. This YA novel tackles life, death, and love with "the perfect blend of levity and heart-swelling emotion." (Seira Wilson, Amazon Best Books of the Month, January 2012). Hazel is sixteen and has terminal cancer. She meets Augustus at her cancer support group and the two bond immediately and then they fall in love. They discuss questions about living and dying, honestly and deeply, giving all of us a chance to contemplate some big questions.

The film is currently still shooting on location in Pittsburgh and Amsterdam and, according to Moviefone, is one of the fastest page-to-screen adaptations in recent movie history.

You can read the Entertainment Weekly article on the release date here. And you can read the Moviefone article on the movie's production here.

Here's a picture from John Green's Twitter of him with three of the cast members, Shailene Woodley (playing Hazel), Ansel Elgort (playing Gus), and Nat Wolff (playing Isaac):

Have you ever considered the idea of making a cupcake based on the details of a book? Well "Have Your (Cup)Cake And Read It Too", a collaboration between Huffington Post Books and BookBliss.com, has done just that! And this month they read one of my favorites, John Green's The Fault In Our Stars and made cupcakes to go along with it. John Green's "An Evening of Awesome"

This coming Tuesday, January 15, author John Green and his brother, Hank, will present “An Evening of Awesome” at Carnegie Hall. This will be a speaking event (also with musical guests, The Mountain Goats) to mark the 1-year anniversary of his most recent, and probably most famous, book, The Fault In Our Stars.

But you can be in the audience right from home via livestreaming video and various Tumblr meetup events! You may or may not know, but John Green has long been known for keeping in contact with his fan base (aka the Nerdfighters) through various forms of social media, and he has said that Tumblr is his social media platform of choice.

There are two opportunities for participation: the livestream event on January 15, and an Ultimate John Green Trivia Challenge, which will run the weekend of January 19-20. All the questions for the Trivia Challenge are fan-sourced from Green’s Tumblr (you can submit a question here!).

Updates and information about how to attend or organize an event can be found on Penguin Teen’s Tumblr and John Green’s Tumblr.

You can read the full article about these "awesome" events at Publishers Weekly by clicking here.

The Fault In Our Stars Movie Update

Hey The Fault In Our Stars fans! Remember the talk of a movie adaptation a few months ago?

This Hypable article, contains a video of an interview with Wyck Godfrey (the producer of the film, who's also responsible for the Twilight movies) who says in it, “It is the best book, it makes you rip your guts out, it makes you want to go out and live a better life. I love it, I can’t wait to make it” and “I’m producing it, Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who wrote 500 Days of Summer, wrote the script – it’s brilliant. I’m getting ready to hire a director, we’ve got all the actresses you would ever want to be in it, want to play Hazel Grace. So I’m excited about that.”

This is big news! Looks like it's really happening! Yay! Be sure to read the full article here!

According to Zap 2 It, writing partners Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber have signed a deal to adapt the novel and the film will be produced by Temple Hill's Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen, who are best known for their work on the "Twilight" franchise.
