90 Second Newbery

Every year since 1922, the American Library Association has awarded the very prestigious Newbery Medal. Now that we've already learned of our 2011 winner, a quick calculation tells us that there are 89 Newbery Medal books in all! That's a lot! Have you read them all?

Me neither.

But wouldn't it be nice to say that you did? Well, it might not be exactly the same as reading the book, but check out a 90 second reenactment of the 1963 winner, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle:

Get it? Want to make your own? Check out: 90secondnewbery.com for more information about the program, which is run by teen author James Kennedy.

Happy acting!

  1. Hi, Laura! This is James Kennedy, the co-curator of the "90 Second Newbery" film festival. Thanks so much for spreading the word about our video contest! Do you think your library might do an entry?

I'm also the author the YA fantasy "The Order of Odd-Fish." If you have a teen book group at your library, and you'd like me to Skype in for a discussion of "Odd-Fish," I'm happy to do it!

After all, "The Order of Odd-Fish" won the 2009 Newbery award:

  2. Hey! Thanks for replying!

I don't think our library will be doing an entry, just because most of the programs have already been booked, and we don't really have the kinds of teens who would just pick up and do something "literary" on a whim, although I love love LOVE the idea! I wish it were more feasible; it looks like soooo much fun! I love video-making! How much work did A Wrinkle in Time take?

I'll mention skyping to my department head and get back to you - it sounds awesome! What's the best way to contact you if, indeed, we are interested?
